    Introduction

    Anybody who is attending, working at, or visiting a council building must wear an ID badge. For visitors this is a temporary paper badge.

    Council employees are required to wear a plastic ID badge, which is about the same size as a credit card, and features:

    • a passport-sized photo of the badge holder
    • their name and job title
    • the East Riding of Yorkshire Council logo.

    Badges are usually held in a plastic holder and either fastened to clothing with a clip, or worn around the neck with a metal chain or lanyard.

    Reasons why you need an ID badge include:

    Most council sites use a badge entry system, with card readers at all entry and exit points.

    We have a range of different entry and exit points at the council including:

    • metal rotating gates
    • automatic doors
    • sliding doors.

    To gain access:

    1. Swipe or scan your ID badge on the card reader
    2. If you have the required level of access, you’ll see a green light on the card reader. If you are at a metal gate, you may also hear the magnet unlock. You can then pass through the entry or exit point.
    Be aware of tailgaters

    Your ID badge will only let one person through at a time, but you should always watch for anyone trying to slip in behind you.

    As well as providing security, you can use your ID badge to access discounts and offers from a range of restaurants, retailers, and leisure venues, via the Shop and Save scheme.

    Badge entry system

    Visual identification

    When you’re on a council site, you must wear your ID badge where it can be easily seen.

    Wearing your ID badge lets other staff members know you're an employee and authorised to be there. This helps to keep our working environment safe and secure.

    It is especially important for you to wear your ID badge if you are:

    • working on the front line, such as at a customer service centre
    • representing the council while in the community.

    Your ID badge helps customers:

    • trust that you are who you say you are
    • recognise that you work for the council
    • feel confident in your knowledge, professionalism, and accountability.

    Printer access

    Your ID badge will allow you to use FollowMe Printing.

    This means when you send something to print, it will be held in a queue rather than sent to a specific printer.

    You can then scan your ID badge at any ‘FollowMe’ printer to authorise it to be released for printing.
