Cycle to work scheme

Cycle to work is a salary sacrifice scheme that allows you to hire a bike and/or cycling equipment from us to help with your commute to work. This scheme is run in partnership with Vivup.

How it works

  • Choose your equipment

You'll choose your bike and/or equipment, and where you order from.

  • Sign hire agreement

You’ll sign a hire agreement that confirms you agree to give up part of your salary each month to hire the bike and/or cycle equipment you have chosen. This is called a non-cash benefit.

  • Receive your order

You'll then receive your order from Vivup, or arrange collection from your local bike shop.

  • Salary is reduced

For the length of the hire period, your gross monthly salary (the amount you receive before income tax or national insurance is calculated) will be reduced by the amount stated in the hire agreement.

  • Tax and national insurance savings

You’ll only pay income tax and national insurance on your remaining salary, which will be less than you’d pay usually. This is where you’ll make the savings.

Do you qualify for the scheme?

Before you sign up for cycle to work, you must carry out the steps below to check that:

  • you and your commute meets the criteria for the scheme
  • the hire payments will not cause your salary to fall below the minimum wage rates.
