Staff survey:

Staff survey - your voice matters

On this page:

    Introduction

Each year, we ask you to take part in our staff survey. This is your chance to:

    • tell us how you feel about working for the council and how supported you feel
    • highlight positives that we do well
    • share your ideas and views to help us improve.

By understanding your experience at work, we can create a more inclusive, supportive, and healthy workplace.

    The survey

This year’s survey was designed to be quick and easy to complete, with all responses kept confidential. It was available from Monday 12 May until Monday 16 June.

The 2024 survey gave us a good starting point to understand your views. Now we can use it to:

    • check how things are going
    • measure any progress
    • take action.

We received 2,819 completed surveys for 2025, which is 43% of all staff. The table below shows the percentage of staff that filled in the survey from each directorate:

    Survey response rates

    Directorate Response rate
Adult social care and health 37%
    Children, families and schools 42%
    Communities and environment 30%
    Corporate resources 83%
    Planning and economic regeneration 63%
    Public health 97%

The response rate increased to 43% from 37% in 2024, and all directorates improved their response rate.

    The results

As a council, this allows us to:

    • be transparent about where we currently are
    • look at how we can improve based on staff feedback
    • put action plans and steps in place for each directorate.

    Results dashboard

You can access our organisation dashboard that provides an overview of results for all of the questions asked in the survey, with the ability to filter by directorate level.

Staff forum - initial results and next steps

You were all invited to a staff forum, so we could share the initial results of our staff survey with you and outline the next steps. If you couldn’t attend the forum or you’d like to watch it again, the recording is available below:

    Next steps

We will be sharing further insights and updates over the next few months.

    Action plans

After looking over the results of the staff survey, each directorate is putting together an action plan. These will become available once they have been agreed and will be updated throughout the year.
