Warning markers:

3.Visits to properties

On this page:

    Introduction

When you visit a property as part of your role, you have a responsibility to check for any known risks before you go.

    Before you visit a property

You must check your service system before visiting any property. This tells you whether a warning marker is in place for an individual at that address.

If a warning marker is in place, you must:

    • read it carefully before your visit
    • follow all control measures
    • raise any concerns with your manager before you go.

If you are unsure whether a warning marker applies to a visit, speak to your manager.

    Report any issues

If something happens during or after a visit that you think should be recorded, or if you believe a warning marker needs to be updated, you must follow the steps below to report it.

    1
    Speak to your manager

Firstly you need to speak to your manager so they are aware of the issue and can discuss it with you. You can then agree on the action required. If a warning marker doesn’t currently apply to an individual, but you and your manager agree it should following the incident, follow the process to submit a warning marker request.

If a warning marker already applies, go to step 2.

    2
    Update your service system

After discussing the incident, if a warning marker exists, you should update your service systems to explain what happened so that your colleagues are aware if they need to visit the same property in the future.

    3
    Contact occupational health and safety

You must also contact the occupational health and safety team so they are aware of the incident and can add further details to an existing warning marker or whether this needs reviewing. You can:

    Email safety.services@eastriding.gov.uk

    Questions or concerns

If you have any questions or concerns following a visit to a property and you’d like to discuss a specific warning marker, you can:

    Have a concern?

If something feels wrong or you are unsure, raise it early and have the discussion with your manager. Do not wait until a situation has escalated.

    High-risk individuals

If the risk is considered high following the problem you have raised, a withdrawal of the service for the individual will be considered. The decision will be made jointly by the service area, occupational health and safety team and legal services. They will inform you of the decision.
