Fire safety:

1. About fire safety

On this page:

    Introduction

Fire safety legislation imposes a general duty of fire safety care on the council, and any members of staff who have control of a premises, to ensure the safety of:

    • our employees
    • people visiting any of our council buildings, such as members of the public or contractors.

    This includes taking steps to:

    • reduce the likelihood of a fire starting
    • provide appropriate fire alarm systems
    • make sure that, in the event of a fire, people can evacuate to a place of safety.

    Fire safety policy

This fire safety policy provides information on our response to this legislation and its management arrangements associated with all premises and activities under the control of the council.

    In particular we will:

    • assess the risks posed by fire and minimise the risk of fire outbreak
    • introduce controls to reduce the severity of a fire and safeguard all employees
    • reduce risks to employees and other persons accessing premises
    • review and update arrangements as required.
