Voluntary redundancy - employee guidance:

4.Final offer and payment

On this page:

    Introduction

If you’ve made a voluntary redundancy application and it has been accepted, you’ll receive a final offer to consider. This page also explains how the termination process works and how you’ll receive the payment if you continue.

    Final offer and termination

Follow these steps to review your final offer.

    1
    Receive final redundancy offer

The HR advice centre will send you a letter containing your final redundancy offer.

    Accept offer

You will be asked to complete the form confirming you accept the offer and return it to your manager. Continue to step 2.

    Please note:

If you accept the offer, the decision is final and you cannot change your mind.

Think about how this decision could affect your life and your finances.

    Reject offer

If you decide not to accept the voluntary redundancy offer, you will still need to complete and return the form to the HR advice centre, declining the offer and your request will be withdrawn. You will be sent a letter confirming the withdrawal. This is the end of the process and your role will remain.

    2
    Termination meeting arranged

A face-to-face meeting will be arranged with:

    • you
    • your manager (all employees except chief officers)
    • your executive director or chief executive (chief officers only)
    • a member of the people services business partner team.

This is to discuss the termination of your employment and agree a leaving date.

    3
    Attend termination meeting

You’ll discuss the termination of your position and will be told what your notice period and leaving date will be. It will not be possible to delay your leaving date or extend your notice period. If you wish to leave earlier, you will need to discuss this with your manager but it may not be possible.

    4
    Final confirmation letter

You will be sent a final confirmation letter detailing the termination of your employment.

This will also include the final form you need to send to people services once you leave in order to receive your redundancy payment.

    5
    Final forms and tasks completed

To finish the voluntary redundancy process your manager (all employees except chief officers) or the executive director or chief executive (chief officers only), will:

    • submit the voluntary redundancy decision record
    • complete the online leavers form, this includes pension information so the necessary arrangements can be made
    • arrange for you to return all your equipment and ID badge.

    6
    Employment records updated

People services record the application form and update the employment record. Once they receive your final redundancy form, they’ll also notify payroll that you are no longer an employee at the council.

    Voluntary redundancy payment

Follow these steps to receive your redundancy payment.

    1
    Return redundancy form

After you have completed your last day of employment, you’ll need to sign and return the redundancy form you received with your final confirmation letter. This cannot be returned before your leaving date.

    Please note:

If your application is approved you cannot accept a job offer with the organisations listed in the Redundancy Payments Order 1999 document on the Local government website before you leave and cannot start that new job within four weeks of your termination date. If you do, you will not be entitled to the redundancy payment.

You must return your letter to receive your payment and access to any pension benefits.

To return the form, you can:

    2
    Receive payment

Your redundancy payment will be arranged by people services after they receive your redundancy form. The:

    • payment will be paid into your bank account.
    • East Riding Pension Fund will be in contact with you regarding your pension.
