Introduction
If you are considering voluntary redundancy, you can check if you are eligible to apply and how much redundancy pay you are likely to receive with our redundancy estimate calculator.
It's important to carefully consider how taking voluntary redundancy might impact your financial situation and future plans.
Check if you are eligible
In order to be eligible to apply for voluntary redundancy you must not:
- work in a school
- be a centrally employed teacher
- be in one of the following roles
- chief executive
- section 151 officer
- monitoring officer.
Due to current service needs applications cannot be accepted from:
- social workers
- occupational therapists
- refuse operatives.
If you are in a grant funded post you may also be excluded from applying for voluntary redundancy.
If you are unsure on any of the above, ask your manager.
If your application is approved, you cannot accept a job offer with the organisations listed in the Redundancy Payments Order 1999 document on the Legislation government website before you leave and start that new job within four weeks. If you do, you will not be entitled to the redundancy payment.
