Introduction
If you have made a formal complaint against a colleague and you believe that the outcome of the investigation has not resolved the problem, you can appeal.
Appeal a decision
Follow these steps to initiate an appeal:
1Write to your executive director
To start the appeal process, email, or write to, your executive director within 14 calendar days of receiving the written reply from the investigating manager.
What you’ll need to include:
You need to include:
- the basis of the bullying or harassment allegation
- why you are not satisfied with the response provided
- what, in your opinion, would be a satisfactory outcome.
2Arrange a meeting
The appeal will be dealt with by a manager who:
- has not yet been involved in the process
- is independent of the line manager and investigating manager.
They will:
- arrange to meet with you within 14 calendar days, if possible
- determine whether it is necessary to speak to other parties so that a decision can be made at the appeal stage.
3At the meeting
At the meeting the manager will discuss:
- why you are still dissatisfied
- what resolution is being sought.
4Appeal decision
Within 14 calendar days of the meeting, the manager will write to you to advise of their decision.
This will either be to uphold, or not uphold (in full or part), the decision made at the formal stage.
If they are unable to communicate their decision at this stage, they will:
- provide an explanation of why they have not made a decision
- give an estimated response date.
